I get really stressed about designing labels and business cards because I want it to be PERFECT. So I basically just put off doing it until I can't anymore...marketing is just not my thing.

I'm thinking of using the banner above, or something similar, for the front of my new business cards. What do you think?

Hot hot heat

I'm trying to make jewellery today on my day off but it's so hot in my apartment here in Vancouver I can hardly think (the whole city is sold out of fans! I'm not kidding).

So here is a photo of my charm necklace...after about a year of wearing it I realized I didn't have any photos of it. It's one of a couple things I've made and kept for myself.

Hopefully I'll have more new things to show you soon.

Heavy Metal

Here are some of my latest pieces as promised. I am still really into mixing different metals and chains and the heavier the better! The charm necklace is a new design which was influenced by all the compliments I get on a charm necklace I made for myself a while back. In the past whenever I tried to recreate it I was never happy with the result so this time I used the same designs as my bracelets and made it bigger and I really like the effect. What do you think? Does this charm necklace work?

I always collect the feathers from Lemon and Sukie-roo when they drop and admire them and I've started to include them in some of my creations (they said it was ok).

So, it's been a while...I have made a few life adjustments and last month I moved to Vancouver. I began my final year (hopefully) at university and didn't know if or when I would have time for the business but a great opportunity came up and I have made some new pieces of my extra special upcycled charm jewellery which will be for sale at a new boutique here in Vancouver on Saturday!

It's called Two-of-Hearts (click their name for all the details) and they are having their grand opening this Saturday where they will be giving away really sweet gift bags to the first 25 people and there will be FREE champagne all day plus you can see the new collections of local and eco-friendly designers they are supporting (like me!).Who could say no to that? I can't wait.

A Very Special Christmas Project

I was commissioned to do several one-of-a-kind pieces for a friend. She had acquired a box of her mother's old jewellery and wanted it turned in to new jewellery, key chains and business card holders so she could give them as gifts to family members for Christmas.

This project was challenging but extremerly rewarding, expecially to see how touched Susan was when I showed her the finished creations.

I made these Christmas decorations a while back as a dontation for the artsist run Gallery 96 annual fundraiser Vineart. I used tangerines that I dried last year at Christmas time and some reconstructed jewellery bits and pieces. I really like how they turned out...I'm not sure if anyone bought them though. Thanks Wendy for including me, it was great to be part of the event and lots of fun that night ;)

My upcycled bangles are now for sale at P'lovers in Stratford http://www.plovers.ca/

They are made from old plastic bangles and salvaged cotton thread that I wrap around and around and around the entire bangle by hand.

And check out this vintage brass reindeer I thrifted last week! I love it and hope to work it in to my booth display at the next craft show....I'm always trying to find new/better ways to display my products. It can reallly be a challenge to create a display that suits my stuff, makes people want to buy my stuff, and stands by the principles of Second Life Designs. I think brass reindeers are the answer...

I am still amazed at the photos that I am able to take with my friends Olympus digital camera! I wasn't able to get any close-ups with my camera without them being blurry, the jewellery especially looked bad in photos so I wasn't comfortable sharing them, especially with people I was trying to sell them to! I owe her lots for lending it to me. Thanks Ash!

These are a few of the screen printed bags I dropped off at Funky Junk, a little shop in Shakespeare, today! Terri-Ann sells mostly vintage treasures but also some artists and artisans items on consignment. She is really supportive of local artists and loves unusual and quirky things. These are items I had left after the show in Toronto and she says the shop is getting busy with people Christmas shopping (already!) and that they totally suit the store so hopefully I sell some...all.

I don't have tons of stock, and I can not take any jewellery items to my next art/craft show so I will have to get busy printing some new stuff. It is good to freshen things up as often as possible though, even I get sick of looking at the same stuff.

So if you are in Shakespeare, Ontario sometime, go check out Funky Junk on the main street for some one of a kind treasures and great deals!

Here is my brand spanking new product that I'll be taking to The CLothing Show in Toronto this weekend - SOFTIE SLEEVE SCRAPS SCRUNCHIE FOR YOUR NECK! So soft and so warm and really cute. I made them from left over t-shirt remmenants from other projects, mostly sleeves. Some open and close with special vintage buttons, and some are really just like a scrunchie...but for your neck.

I've made some more upcycled bangles with my new chocolate brown embroidery thread. The best part - the colour matches really well with my summer bangles too, so they can all still be worn together in the fall!

These are some new long necklaces I made out of some interesting patterened hooks/rings(?) I found. They are on vintage chains, and reclaimed charms. I think that they're really unique and lots of fun. I made one (not shown) for my friend Erin and she just told me that she also loves wearing it with the big ring off for a more subtle look. The big rings easily open and close on a tiny hinge so you can slide it out of the chain!

Hello!

My name is Pamela, owner/creator/designer of second life designs. This new little business venture is the result of my obsession with fashion and vintage, and my concerns over social and environmental issues all colliding into one thing. second life designs specializes in hand made (by me) one-of-kind items by upcycling, reconstrucing and screen printing. I use salvaged, used and natural materials as much as possible. I also have a pet budgie, Lemon, and bunny rabbit, Pierre, who keep me company while I work.

I've started a blog to keep some people (hopefully) updated on what I've been up to, show off some new work and announce upcoming events where I will be selling some things. This is my first time blogging so please be nice and hopefully once I get used writing these it will be less "dear diary" like (unfortunately, I was never good at keeping a diary and would always rip up the pages whenever I re-read it).

Anyway, the photos above are some of my "new" vintage purses and wallets. All are screen printed by hand with my own designs. These items are all now for sale at From Mars, a really great store in London, Ontario (347 Talbot St). Hope you enjoyed the post!
